Cleaning school bags and pencil cases before the new school year
A gentle Marseille soap spray to start the year with a clean bag, without putting it in the washing machine.
A school bag cannot go in the washing machine without putting its seams and reinforcements at risk. A surface clean is more than enough, as long as you let it air-dry before putting it away.
What you need
- 2 tablespoons of white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of Marseille soap flakes
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- 500 ml of lukewarm water
- A few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil
The method
Melt the soap flakes in the lukewarm water, stirring until they have completely dissolved.
Add the vinegar and baking soda. It foams a little, so let it settle.
Add the essential oil and pour into a spray bottle.
Spray onto a cloth rather than directly onto the fabric, rub, then wipe with a damp cloth.
Before putting it away
Leave the school bag open to air-dry before closing it. A bag put away damp smells musty within two days.
Test first on an inside seam: some coated fabrics can mark.
