Bathroom grout, white again
A vinegar spray, an old toothbrush, and the black comes out of the grout without bleach.
The black in shower grout is an organic deposit sitting on top of limescale. Vinegar tackles the limescale, washing-up liquid deals with the rest, and the brush does the scrubbing that nothing can replace.
What you need
- 4 tablespoons of white vinegar
- 20 cl of water
- 1 tablespoon of washing-up liquid
- 10 drops of tea tree essential oil
- An old toothbrush
The method
Mix the water and vinegar in a clean spray bottle.
Add the washing-up liquid and essential oil, then shake gently to avoid foam.
Spray onto the grout and leave to act for a few minutes.
Scrub with the toothbrush, then rinse with clean water.
One limit to know
This recipe is suitable for standard cement grout. On natural stone or marble, do not use vinegar: it attacks the limestone in the material itself. In that case, use diluted black soap and a soft brush.
If the black comes back quickly, the problem is moisture: airing the room for five minutes after every shower does more than any product.
